I believe that science should be accessible, collaborative, and engaging for diverse audiences. Through mentorship, teaching, and public outreach, I aim to share insights from primate behavioral ecology and evolutionary anthropology while helping students and community members connect with the scientific process. My outreach activities focus on making research approachable, inspiring curiosity about the natural world, and supporting the next generation of scientists.

Public science communication

Communicating science beyond academic settings is an important part of my work. I regularly participate in outreach events that connect scientists with the broader public and encourage conversations about science, evolution, and conservation. I also work with programs that introduce students to scientific thinking and ecological research.

Recent outreach activities include:

  • Wild kin: Understanding primate behavior, evolution, and connection to us - lecture series for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute; developed and delivered the lectures

  • Talks with a Scientist - Minnesota Science Museum

  • Focus Scientist - College of Biological Sciences, University of Minnesota

  • Anthropology Outreach Booth - Minnesota State Fair

  • SASSAk12 outreach program with middle school students in Minneapolis; developed an interactive board game activity about primate movement ecology

  • Minnesota Science Bowl, supporting STEM engagement for high school students

Mentorship

I have mentored several undergraduate students interested in primatology, spatial analysis, or behavioral ecology. Many of these students contribute to ongoing research projects and gain experience in data analysis, GIS, and scientific communication.
